Angry Win Xp Home Locking Up!!!

Hello all. I for one am a total Linux user. My father however still does not want to make the switch, even though he's having problems with his new computer that has winxp home pre-installed. The problem he is having is that the computer locks up all the time. Can't ctrl+alt+delete out or anything. Has anyone else here that uses xp at all ever had this problem and know what to do to fix it(other than install Linux)? Thanks for any help.

Once more this sort of questions are suitable for http://www.windowsbbs.com and likes, even though it is a general forum where everything non-*NIX related could be posted the question is windows-specific and the board is linux-specific. So try windowsbbs they have quite discussions there about windows issues.

I've stayed away from XP to tell you the truth but most of the time its some sort of hardware problem. Check your IRQ's and maybe try to update drivers for your devices. I had a similiar problem with win2k, it ended up being my sound card that was causing the muck. But yet again, it could be nothing regarding the hardware and be the OS itself, in which you'll probably get better responses from the link neo provided.

Yeah I also browse WindowsBBS because I'm the only person I know of around here that uses Linux I often find myself troubleshooting a Windows problem. Haven't used XP much but that site is great for Windows help. Follow NEO's link and you should be on the road to recovery.

My parents bought a new system with XP on it and I always have problems with it locking up. All the time. Sometimes it just decides to restart for no reason. Once it tried to format the Harddrive.
I hate Microsoft, so maybe they found out and screwed up the system. (Blame Microsoft for everything-its a good anger manegment technique)
XP Home is the worst OS ive ever used so you're not alone

That and ME. I never really used either on a daily basis or ever installed on my own systems, but when I dealt with them.. they sucked majorly.

I'm sorry but Windows Me is the worst! I am proud to be running Me on my other partition. It is a proof of concept. A Microsoft consultant says to me

MCSD : "Windows 2000 is a network OS"
Me : "There were network OSs before Windows 95 - you just didn't know about them"
MCSD : "Yeah well why don't you get a decent Windows OS on you laptop?"
Me : "I have - Windows Me ... "
MCSD : " ... "

Heehehe.

P.S. Even the MCSD agress that Windows XP is Windows 2000 in drag.
