What does being a Debian Maintainer entail?

I have no programming/scripting language at all. I would like to ontribute to debian(as it's the distro I use), but I don't know what maintaining a package would entail? How much time is required? Do I need programming/scripting experiance? Other things to think about?

I am not a maintainer, but know of one. I do, however run Debian stable, and have looked into just the things you are asking about.

http://www.debian.org/devel/join/ has many suggestions for ways to help.

There are also several IRC channels on irc.freenode.net that Debian developers and maintainers use for communicating.

Hope this helps
