Yet another German anarcho-comedian: Helge Schneider
Performing something
He's been around for a long time, and been doing all sorts of different things.
i got to know him as a comedian in the early 90s.
it is difficult to present you a representative excerpt from that time, because
a) the internet wasn't what it is today, and
b) a lot of the humour lies in drawing things out
c) half of the funny stuff happens between the songs
d) it's in german, duh.
i remember we were having a lot of fun, which only grew when we realised that he's actually a pretty good jazz musician and messing things up on purpose.
Die for Christ, die for Allah, die for Jerusalem, die for Torah
Father and son marching in rhythm
Firing bullets through the skulls of the children
Holy war, mortars and martyrs
Holy war, unholy followers
Holy war, brainwashed with death
Holy war, unholy mess
I reject the laws of the misguided
False prophets imprison nations fueling self annihilation
I reject pocket lined political demons
Who arm the ignorant for election season
Empires buried in sand
A history of the failures in man
Armies of guardians, servants of bibles
Reciting verses as they stand before rifles
Millions of lives erased
Hatred marked as madness
Violence in leaves of scripture
A world aflame with malice
We will all die for nothing
There is silence in the house of God
There is only the cry of hell
There is silence in the house of God
There is only the cry of hell
Holy war, mortars and martyrs
Holy war, unholy followers
Holy war, brainwashed with death
Holy war, unholy mess
Die for Christ, die for Allah, die for Jerusalem, die for Torah
Father and son marching in rhythm
Firing bullets through the skulls of the children
Holy war, holy war
We will all die for nothing
We will all die for nothing
Little Wing
A miserable Live-recording from 1969 in Frankfurt, Germany.
Still very close to the other live-version (unrelated video) which appears to be the most-sought.
That said, many reject it, but I had to look this up, once again. Let us keep our feet on the ground, but the guy can play. Just do not say “acoustic”.
P.S.: There I found the new life-performance of Monte Montgommery from 2017 in Germany. Different, more improvisation, less effects and better!

If Dave Eggers ever rewrote A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, he could be referencing this album.
The band was put together in 2009 by Swedish guitarist Juha Raivio and South African singer Aleah Stanbridge, who formed a romantic relationship that lasted until Aleah's demise from cancer in April 2016. The band had recorded the material for what was to be their only album. Aleah was 39, the album was released four months after her death.
These holidays are quite the roller coaster of highs and lows. I just learned that on Christmas Eve, James Wilsey, the guitar player responsible for creating such a haunting voice for the following breakthrough and memorable song, died. It is a considerable loss. Play this loud once, won't you? Thanks. It's just a gesture but I imagine it will bring you some sonic pleasure and that's what he was about.
