View Poll Results: What is Music? (Poll added on 6th of May 2012).
The reason I posted it was because it has J. R. "Bob" Dobbs with the pipe in his mouth in the video. I haven't really listened to the whole thing - I only noticed it because I was going through my TV recordings clearing the backlog I had of them (I record a show that plays music videos).
If you really want to know what makes Jimi Hendrix the most influential electric guitar player possibly of all time but certainly in modern times, you won't likely get that on YouTube. I'm so angry and sad that his triflin' hooker of a half-sister got control of Jimi's estate I can often barely contain it. Let me just say she would happily and personally cut the nuts off of of Secretariat and wonder why a gelded stallion could not reproduce.
Anyway while it is impossible to sum up Jimi in just one performance which in itself is a major part of the accolades since he was an IMPROV Player. There used to be an LP available mostly for musicians to study famous extraordinary guitarists and one of Hendrix featured several versions of Red House which is as simple as it gets in music, a seemingly straight ahead 12 bar Slow Blues. Every one is different and that's just a sampling chosen for the record.
Jimi spent hours at his apartment window in New York City and other locations out in Nature trying to mimic street and traffic noises as well as ocean waves and babbling brooks and also sounds he had heard in his favorite Sci Fi and Military films. As a result Jimi was not tied to any system of scales. He was just all about translating and reproducing sounds that mattered in his life.
This is why you need to see this live performance if you care at all about musicianship or guitar mastery. You can actually see Jimi's mastery is so evolved and complete that he is entirely "in the zone"... in that Zen Moment where he disappears into the emotional impact act of sound and follows it wherever it takes him and this night is one of the best. It takes courage to play "off the cuff" and not just stick to some rehearsed to perfection "cut 'n paste". Sometimes this leads to bad, or at least less than spectacular performances. This night is the polar opposite. This night is as if he ripped open his chest and let his Soul sing directly into a microphone. Improv is a roller coaster ride and it has it's lows, but sometimes, like this night, it careens around the track at breakneck speed and is in effect an extended, perfect progression that flows like a raging river.
I wish I could download this video but none of the 4 video downloaders I've tried will complete. So if anyone here can please let me know how because nobody knows how long this can stay available. Janie has been a mongrel offspring between a bloodhound and a pitbull in tracking down and killing what, by rights, should now be Public Domain.
Wow! Myk267... that's one helluva script! Thank you!... and if it was you who wrote that script then you certainly have my respect as that bad boy has really sweet flexibility for such a nice, tight piece of code work.. I'm going to enjoy playing around with that

I can't take credit for anything except the link. I wish I knew what the heck was going on in the script, though; it's a serious piece of work!
Jwz is also at fault for XScreenSaver, if you like watching those.
Pulse is now disabled and alsaequal is working very nicely for a '90s thrash extravaganza on the Slack Dell laptop. Currently got Sadus - Elements of Anger from '97 going over. Such a great thrash band from their blisteringly fast 1980s material to their later, mid-paced tech-thrash. With some Quake, this machine is all set for some serious old school action.

Jimi Hendrix Vietnam war protest song, Machine Gun.
"The 'Band of Gypsys' is a live album by Jimi Hendrix and the first without his original group, the Jimi Hendrix Experience. It was recorded on January 1, 1970, at the Fillmore East in New York City with Billy Cox on bass and Buddy Miles on drums, frequently referred to as the Band of Gypsys."
There also was talk of Jimi forming a supergroup with Miles Davis and trying to get Paul McCartney. I believe Jimi died before anything became of the group.
