Writing this from my new Lucid installation. I have not found it too different from the Karmic but it does feel stable. And looks nice too. And the installation looks very good. This has to be the best looking installer yet.
But there is a small glitch. I can not see the grub menus on the screen neither can I see the booting process. This is strange and weird but nevertheless it works. Just installed it so have not explored it yet. Will find some solution. And also putting up a thread in Ubuntu forums here at LQ to find if anyone has had similar issues.
And Firefox here on Lucid looks much better than Karmic and is fast too.

I'm playing ping pong with slackware boxes, checking my directory backups from the old backup box to the even older soon-to-be file/print server. It amazes me how fast XDMCP is going from a minimal X environment on slack current to another slack current box running KDE is. I keep forgetting that I'm working on the remote machine.

I'll stick with Karmic until the stable LTS is released.

It has been released. I am on to the stable release and not the RC.

If you plan to install Lucid, then please tell if you have issues with grub menu and the splash screen. I am not able to see both. I can not tell if the system is booting. It just takes me directly to the login screen where I can enter user name and password. But this issue is in install. When I tried it in the Live mode everything went fine. Splash screen was there. And it was nice. I want it somehow.

I have a dell with Intel hardware. Here is the lspci -vv output.

I have a GMA950... This card usually tends to play nicely with any Linux distro...

Have you checked dmesg and grub.cfg yet? Is your screen resolution strange?

This is what I can see in dmesg.

Code:
[ 14.073972] vga16fb: initializing
[ 14.073978] vga16fb: mapped to 0xc00a0000
[ 14.073983] vga16fb: not registering due to another framebuffer present
I can not see anything else. Grub file seems fine. Have checked it with startup manager as well. Resolution is fine.
I got the max supported on this dell monitor.

Could you post your screen resolution and the grub.cfg file?

Does recovery mode work?

My guess would be something wrong with either the syntax or the vga mode in this line:
Quote:
splash quiet vga=769 quiet splash

Try editing the grub.cfg to look like this:

Quote:
### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ###
menuentry 'Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.32-21-generic' --class ubuntu --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
recordfail
insmod ext2
set root='(hd0,2)'
search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 73027c1b-c6d6-4dca-921a-cc68aaaa1a29
linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic root=UUID=73027c1b-c6d6-4dca-921a-cc68aaaa1a29 ro vga=769 quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-21-generic
I also Googled that curious dmesg line and got some 'patch' hits.

(Perhaps you can scratch VGA all together? This manual: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1195275 has some examples that don't even have a vga parameter...)

Does not make any difference. But more strange thing is that I can see the splash screen while rebooting or shutting down the system. But not while its starting up.

Try just dropping the vga parameter.
