Want to Run Vmware ESX 3.5??

I have the following Machine configuration on which I am planning to deploy VMWARE ESX through ISO.

Code:

power management: ts fid vid ttp [4] [5]

[root@localhost ~]#
[root@localhost ~]#
I was just trying to download vmware ESX but surprise to see there is no Vmware ESX 3 for Athlon but there are couple for opthron.
I tried using 32 Bit Vmware Image from vmware official website but that showed some error related to hardware. Was just guessing if it is searching for storage online.

Pls Help.

Its din't show any option for storage configuration.
I inserted CD with ISO..."Loading VMware ISO" Took couple of minutes

Showed new screen "Loading - - - - "
Went fine for couple and suddenly showed some hardware requirement I guess(not sure) stucked !!!

Can anyone help me: " I have above hardware setup.I need to install ESX 3/4/..But it shud be ESX(not Vmware Server GSX(2.0).
I checked with Googling "Hardware Checklist Consigiration+ Vmware" and can only see opthron Processor.

Sorry, you can't test Vmotion without shared storage, NFS, iSCSI or FC

cheers

I think you may need a CPU with VM support. Most sold in the last few years have it, but I think yours is too old, I don't see vt in the flags secion of your cpuinfo.

VMWare ESX will only run on hardware with virtualization support (e.g., the vt flag as indicated by uteck.) Additionally, vmotion requires a cluster of 2 or more IDENTICAL machines with access to a shared storage area via iSCSI or FC SAN.

This is also not a Linux Question.

VMware ESX is built on top of RHEL which is nothing but Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Correct Me..If I am not Wrong.

It does use a Linux kernel, but I think they roll there own kernels.

VMware is basically a stripped down version of RHEL with kernel modifications. I would actually classify questions regarding to installation of VMware as being Linux related but more like Software that runs on Linux. This is a reason why LQ most likely needs a virtualisation subforum.

I think though questions like these could easily fit in Software. Members ask questions all the time about software that technically isn't Linux, since Linux is actually the kernel of the OS. Saying VMware that uses RHEL along with the actual Linux kernel but modified is like telling people who have questions about Apache that it's not Linux related and belongs all here in the General forum.

I agree with the need for a Virtualization Forum. The only reason I mentioned that this is not Linux related is that VMWare questions will only help VMWare users. Apache questions will help anyone using Apache, regardless of distro, etc.

All that being said, I hope your original question has been answered.

Well, I would think the VMware software is running on what we do call Linux, since it's a Linux kernel and many other bits of the OS to make it run and support it, just like Apache. That's why I would imagine even though it's a VMware only question, it's running on top of what we do know of being Linux. Just a thought really in why I think VMware questions like these using Linux shouldn't be thrown into the General cesspool.

This is slightly incorrect. VMware ESX is indeed using a RHEL based distribution but for two purposes:
- as a kind of boot loader to install its own kernel (VMkernel).
- to create the first virtual machine which is used to manage the whole thing and stays alive (service console).

So, although Linux is a required component, VMWare ESX it is built on top of its own low level kernel which is closed source and not (according to VMWare) based on Linux.
