Science is knowledge. Technology is progress.
The human animal will always question its existence.
Is a scholar weak if he or she believes in a god?
Does the holy man or woman who believes this life is all have a marred psyche?
You- not just one- have forgotten how to live.
How many of you have children? Or friends? Or family?
Is this how you see them, as random occurrences?
What do you say to people when they lose someone they love?
Is it, "Shit happens?"
Perhaps your life is empty and you find joy in your misery.
People will always fear the unknown. It is a natural instinct.

My God, is this how you help someone? By rubbing their faces in the same shit that is worrying them?

Those who talk the loudest will cry the most.

The man said he takes medication and the reason is psychological in nature. Would that you could be a bunch of asshats and feed his fear?
You really and truly are miserable.

IMHO there are more scaring stuff in less abstract Scientific fields happening today, at this very same moment...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-point_energy

Why have the FBI raided Nikola Tesla's Office and laboratory, and took ALL the documents and calculations they could find...?

... someone tell me...

Or this...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z-pinch

Or in short :

1.) Do we really need a Fission device to create the necessary conditions to start a Fusion device ?

1.a) Is Ulam Teller configuration or Sloika configuration the only ones that can yeld a workable Hydrogen Bomb...?

What would happen if some dudes form n0r7h k0r34 manage to create a Cylindrical Implosion wave in a cylinder containing hot dense Tritium Plasma... using Z-Pich technology ( Electromagnetic Implosion using Lorentz force ) and pack the whole contraption inside a 1Ton < "package"...?

I think that AEA would not notice anything strange in international circuits of "strategic" materials... no HMX/RDX CL-20 to design explosive lenses, nor ultraprecision milling machines to cut them, no Tungsten, no Berillyum... nothing... no fissile materials ...Zilch...

Or this...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Induced_gamma_emission

... scary shit, isn it....?

BTW, I like to monitor Scientific Literature, Papers, Thesis, Investigation Communications, and specialized Journals on some "strategic" subjects... it is... let's call it "fun"...

Since around 2005 the publications on Nucleonic Decay Reactions have been progressivly scarce...

As a footnote, Igor Kurtchatov and the less known Yevgeny Zababakhin ( I still have some of its "declassified" monographs on self similarity of Shock waves ) were the first to warn Stalin in 1941 that something "strange" had happened :

Since the start of Mahattan Programme, the number of available International Scientific Publications on some subjects had dropped to almost zero... "something", somewhere, was going on...

Makes on think about some "weird" stuff, like... why can't one find detailed accounts and writings from Tesla...?

The man was a Nobel Prize of Physics... right...?!

Why has he been almost "ostracized" by the remaining of Scientific Community...?

Is there something that we bare mortals, and low rank Scientists ( like Engineers ) are not supposed to know...?

Now someone tell me...

OOOPSSS Google Analytics tracked me... as soon as I posted this, several lights popped up in the monitors of some dudes in NSA's control rooms... I used some words, and they triggered the data mining applications which will sweep al my email accounts...

...now you undestand why I keep my HDDs encrypted ... they can snoop into my exotic weapons designs, but i will not allow them to pick any of my pictures of my Last weekend with Beyonce and Shakira in the Tuvalu Island... no way

What relevance has any of that to MrCode's problem?

None, really, I was just trying to stress that some stuff although being less abstract, and more real than MrCode's problem are way more scary within technological and Scientific matters...

These are aspects of science which scare me, ... particularly..

The prospect that some Scientific/Technological knowledge known by some, might be used explicitly to harm a lot of people, scares me, and this is not a "metaphysical/philosophical" issue, with all respect i have for such issues...

Fear isn't something to be shared, it's something to be conquered.

Actually, I don't take meds anymore, but I was on citalopram (sp?) for a time, and I didn't like it.

Was that directed at me, or others (or both)?

You do know about NoScript, right? I always keep google-analytics.com blocked...

I guess I need to take my own advice and seek the truth in myself, rather than from science or physics. I've seen at least two posts now telling me that I'm looking for truth in the wrong place, and I think they're both right...at least they make some sense, in that I'm misinterpreting what science is. I keep thinking of it as an answer to everything, when that's probably not the case at all...

Actually I've seen that article, and I don't find it really scary at all, but then again, maybe that's because I'm not a mechanical engineer.

I'm thinking I should just have this thread closed, unless potential psychological self-destruction isn't a good enough reason to have a thread closed.

Mr-Bisquit's comments were directed at the rest of us, not you.

Yeah. Apart from in the broadest and most general terms, a tech forum isn't really the place to seek psychological advice - unless the advice is to seek out a professional.

Seems to have gone it's natural course, so closed.
