I totally get tiling wms - I spend far too much time all the time throughout the day moving/rejigging windows about, trying to widen this, narrow that, move that new window that popped up out of the way etc. Each time it's take the mouse and jiggle things about. And that happens several times an hour if you are opening/closing files and apps a lot. At least it seems to me I am sometimes spending as much time managing how I do things (arranging screen, menus, files etc.) as I am actually doing things and that bugs me.
Admittedly, I do a semi-similar thing if I have more than one terminal window open: Compiz (yes, my WM of choice; please don't heckle me ) has a plugin called "Put", which basically lets you place the currently-focused window in any of the four screen quadrants, any of the four edges, or the center, with a single key combo (I use Super+<numpad 1-9>). I usually stick my terminals side-by-side if I have more than one open, and I often do the same thing even when it's not two terminals if the other window is roughly of the same (horizontal) size. For window switching I usually just use Alt-Tab or Super-Tab (Alt-Tab is for the quick Static switcher; Super-Tab is the Ring switcher ).

I used compiz as a standalone wm for quite a while. Eventually had to switch to a *box environment because compiz was really buggy with wine apps that used 3d rendering. (read: not letting them use 3d at all) the answer i got from wine was to ask compiz, and compiz never responded to a word i sent, so i gave up.

Am I too late to join this thread? At what point does a "...screenshot III" thread begin? (2000+ posts spanning 138 pages??!!)

Agreed. KISS. Thought I'd take a quick break from my LAMP+ install from source to fiddle with my desktop. Mainly because I wanted to dedicate it to my mate Josh (NOT the Josh that my ex-wife-to-be ran off with). Sadly, this thing's going headless, but doing so was fun regardless.

Oh, and in terms of "mean"? You don't want to know the quote directly over the DoD seal, hidden by the Terminal's heading...

Frankenserver's Desktop

PS - *whispers* "The NSA is our b!+ch."

Haha..... It's all good man. I think you should add some code and hexadecimal "stuff" into the background of the logos, make it look more badass
