Question PATA IDE to SATA adapter for laptop?

I see that PATA IDE hdd drives on eBay almost cost the same as a SATA laptop drives.

So I was thinking of getting aPATA IDE to SATA adapter for laptop.

This should work fine right? I know it won't use the faster speed although I can get a 7200 rpm laptop drive, so that would be faster and if I goto Linux i can get some more life out of my old pc tablet from 2006 w2gb ram

What? One of these?

It can be hit or miss sometimes. Depending on Motherboard, bios, and make of model of a laptop.
Old old laptops , like I am used to. Sometimes won't see the hard drive because the laptop is older than sata.

I quietly buy stuff like this. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it does not.
Being 2006 gear. You might luck out.

I hope you know that IDE SSD drives are available. It would probably be a better route than the adapter.

Thanks

I guess I'll get an IDE HDD, hate to spend $15 on a drive that wont work w an adapter and an IDE SSD is too much $ to put into my old laptop.

Last time I looked into getting a larger (>120gb) IDE drive for my 2006 laptop, I found it would be more cost effective to just buy a new laptop.

The IDE drive is under $16 w free shipping. I think the main reason I keep it is because the screen goes totally flat, I can use the stylus, finger-nib & built in mouse buttons. I guess most modern laptops will work closed though and have trackpads.
