The best way to support your favourite distro is by having voted at the LQ Members' choice awards. If you haven't then too bad
I am really unhappy that Debian lost, but it didn't do too badly.
@KimVette: Yes, although this topic has been discussed a lot of times, it's not really as bad as the "Linux vs. Windows" ones. In the end, let the moderators do their job if they feel that this thread is useless or not. I've given the same kind of reply to such threads as you have just done, in the past, and I've learnt the hard way that if you're not a moderator it just elicits flame and smart-alec remarks, nothing else. I've learnt to ignore and move on or reply constructively.

EliotK, your language attitude in this thread is unacceptable. I think I don't need to cite all the posts. I recommend you to change the way you write here and re-read LQ rules you've agreed to when signing in. Thanks.

If you ever want to try gentoo and need any help getting started, just let me know. I've done enough installs that I can practically do it in my sleep.
Distribution: Ubunto and slowly switching to debian

i would hav tryed yum but been a copleat newbie at the time i thought yum was the noise you make when you enjoy food this is what i mean by it not been good for newbie's what i wanted as a newbie was an OS that did what windows did but without any blue screens and fedora wasnt that
i dont think i would have that much of a problem setting up gentoo as i think i have the basic knolage to bluff my way through the instalation the only problem i think i would have is finding the tme to do it as i dont even have the time to install suse any more and i hear gentoo takes a long time to install i will maybee give it a go during my next holidays
slackware in my mind is the best linux distro out there (never tryed gentoo or debian) it can be a little off butting as virtually nothing is automated but thats why i like it so you actually understand the system and in my mind is easyer to set up because of this reason!! the config files all have comments telling you what things are and are for and what they do. do you get all that in a stupid wizerd that just "says put ip hear"
Originally posted by EliotK Yeah I use yum, apt and synaptic alot, I recently formatted my hd, and lost all my kick ass source lists. Got a copy?
Mine is not very full. I had a lot more when I was using FC2, but with the change in yum from 2 to 3, I haven't found many that work with the new format yet. In fact, I don't even have the Fedora Extras Core one. But here's what I have anyway in my yum.conf file.
i have seen god knows how many distroX Vs DistroY and my distros better then yours and things like that. every one always argues over what is the best distro but i have never seen what is the worst distro. so this is more like "my distro's worse then yours"
<snip>
what is you least favorite or worst distro and why?
berrance
as stated above, berrance wanted a debate on what is the worst distro and why. so, insted of telling what is your favorite distro and how full you are threads that compete you could
a) answer to question
and/or
b) move on
i donīt think i will ever install mandrake or fedora again. after those two my initial shock with linux was so huge i installed windows xp back well, luckily i found out that linux can be more than that.
mandrake: network didnīt work with standard install, the whole thing looked even more stupid than xp. i had no clue how to get network running (amilo 1840)
fedora: under tolerable looks there was a dependecy hell, impossible up2date-system and no support for any popular media formats whatsoever. plus the fact that when i tried to manually edit some configs they got back to defaults during reboot. clever fedora kept stupid backups hidden somewhere (like iīd edit manually if i didnīt know what i wanted). general linux howtos were quite useless during my fedora days since it was so...well, you know. so fedora core 1 gets my vote.
