Linux Live from USB stick with two partitions!

All,

I have come up with a way for Windoze 7 to see multiple partitions on an 8gb usb stick. I have put Fedora 20 LXDE on the first partition and I used the second partition for storage. I have read that it couldn't be done, that windoze will only see the first partition but this works!

I carry a live Fedora distro in my pocket at all times!

What does the link to the Sandisk flash drive for sale on Ebay have to do with your claim in the post?

The purpose of this forum is to provide answers or assistance to people having problems with their computer, mostly in reference to Linux as you would guess by the name of the site. Of course, many users here use and are familiar with windows and may be interested in your post but not as it stands. You have posted a claim without any foundation or explanation so what exactly is the point?

Good to know. I'll have to test it but assume that you are correct.

Yes I'm selling it but seriously I may make 1-2 dollars over my cost. Yancek, my point is that USB drives are a great way for non-linux users to try out linux without purchasing another computer or having to deal with the limitations of running it in a VM. The reason that I posted it here of course is to sell it but also to let people know that you can have a USB drive that will run linux and still have room for data storage that can be used across Win, Mac and Linux platforms. To my knowledge, this is not available anywhere else. I just thought that there may be a lot of people that would try linux if they didn't have to make such a big commitment in hardware or setting up a vm. They would carry this with them since it would store 5gb of data as well. Not to mention the utility aspect of being able to retrieve data from a non booting windows system drive. I can assure you that my love of linux and getting people to use it more means much more to me than the couple of bucks that I stand to make by selling it on eBay.

Obviously, someone would need to sell thousands (at least) of flash drives to make it the least bit profitable. I didn't see the point in the link as you didn't explain it but it seems Teufel saw it right off.

I don't use windows much myself but, from what I have read in order to do this third party software is required (Bootice), filter drivers as explained at the links below:

http://agnipulse.com/2012/03/filter-...-disk-windows/
http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/multipartufd

Given the windows default of only seeing the first windows formatted partition, it would seem to me to be simpler to put a Linux Live CD on the second partition of the flash drive, install Grub to the mbr of the drive pointing to the second partition and create a proper grub.cfg entry. Alternatively, use the whole flash drive as one windows formatted partition and create a directory for windows on it. If you wanted a Linux Live CD, you could copy just the iso file and create a /boot/grub directory with a proper grub.cfg loopback entry in the file or, if it won't boot directly as an iso, just extract it and copy the files to the flash in order to boot.

So if you were able to get windows to see both partition, you've accomplished something.
