Thumbs down KDE 4.5.1 is so buggy!

You basically can't touch it without it crashing. Akregator, for example, crashes when you open a tab, and Konqueror is so unstable that it can't be used for browsing.

Great, just hope you have the logs for all the crashiness and such, and report it to the devs at KDE.

I wonder how thy handle their versioning. Is it something like a beta?

It opens up the bug reporting tool, but it says the crash info isn't useful and doesn't let you continue.

Could be a hardware issue then if the bug reporting tool isn't letting you continue. Either that or it's Arch's implementation of KDE 4.5 that's the problem.

I'm also not using the KDE desktop, but I do use some KDE applications because I prefer them to the alternatives.

I have never used for long or probably will never use KDE for the same random crashes unless they match it up to Gnome level stability.

flux + Midori + Thunar + Gnumeric + abiword + gimp and one has LightSpeed functional Desktop...

Add it some target specific apps for engineering, you still have that working environment without loss of performance...

Catia in wine, Salome Platform, Salome, Calculix, Code Aster, Open Foam, Scilab, QtOctave, BRL-CAD, Varicad...

All those are in AUR, excepting for Varicad and Catia ( only proprietary apps I have in my lappy )...

Only thing i miss in flux, is automatic mounting of DvDs and USB sticks...

KDE wins in this one...

Actually I find automatic mounting very annoying. I like it when it mounts when I navigate to it in the file manager, and that works in any desktop.

I don't like auto-mounting anyway, using rox-filer it mounts the device when I click it, which is exactly what I want. Thunar is probably a good app to use if you want auto-mounting.

Why is auto mounting not good...?

There are no autoruns to fear... saves some typing in a shell...

Why is this bad...?

What if I don't want it to be mounted right away, or I changed my mind and thought I don't want to plug it in? In those cases, there is no need to unmount it.

Also, if you file manager automatically mounts it when you navigate to the device, it's not any less convenient.
