Angry My ISP is a THIEF!!!

My ISP's called "Sify." The package that I bought from them was a 48kbps connection with unlimited downloads. Validity period: 6 months After a month, I noticed that my bandwidth had jumped up to 96kbps. I was sooo happy.

Then one fine day, I thought of checking out the new packages that they had come up with. (because internet was supposed to become cheaper after the budget was passed). I noticed they had upgraded the bandwidth of all packages. Then, I happened to read the fine-print. It said "If more than 150 MB is downloaded in a day, then one day will be deducted from your account"

I was like...WTF...I immediately checked my account details, and saw that my expiry date had just come back by two weeks!!!

After keeping a watch on my account, I have now realized that they are just reducing days at random. Its not every 150 MB or something....its just plain RANDOM!!

This is totally outrageous!! WHEN THE HELL IS DECENT INTERNET GOING TO REACH THE PEOPLE HERE!!!!!!!

Try Iqara. They have some good packages and all the packages are based on transfer not on time. Only thing is that their connection speed may not always be excellent.

The thing is, I need an unlimited connection, with no restricitons on time and transfer. I download over 3 GB a month.

thanks a lot Harishankar. They've got some pretty good plans...I might consider shifting to iqara.

Also, I'm definitely going to make complaints about Sify.

A general tip: get an ethernet cable modem rather than a USB modem. It is much easier to set up in Linux than a USB modem. So far as I have tried, no USB modem has worked in Linux.

Hmm...I'll keep that in mind. Btw...does iqara have any sorf of login-method, and if there is, then it's available for linux too, right? Sify has a really sick one, and it takes around 10 attempts to login in linux. I've actually made a small shellscript for trying again and again

There's no login. I just activate the ethernet and the connection is ready

This is because you get assigned a static IP anyway. All you need to do is configure the network settings (IP, subnet, gateway and DNS) and you're ready to go.

Somewhat Iqara satisfied

My wishes to akudewan, so that problems with Sify gets resolved.

I am using Iqara unlimited 192 kbps with dload capped at 15 KBps (seems like 128 kbps). Quite okay for surfing, but downloading takes hours, a heavy downlaoder like me has to get his PC fried to actually download many things.

Prior to that I was using limited dload plans from Iqara, and even prior to that I used BSES powersurfer, 64 kbps shared and unlimited, so dlaod was capped at 6-8 KBps.

After quite researching on internet and experience seems that Iqara is quite good, Tata Indicom reaches almost the same on price, considering modem costs also.

I have renamed this, rather old, thread to make the title more meaningful.

I'm totally dissatisfied with Iqara at present. I had changed to Tata Indicom some time back, but their service was pathetic (complaints kept going into a black hole called call-centers) so I've come back to Iqara.

I'm thinking of Airtel. My brother uses this connection and I think it's probably the best at the moment.

BSNL is also supposed to be decent, but since it's a public ISP don't expect any service at all.

The thread seems to be alive again, with the renaming. Thats good!

Thanks for the feedback on Tata.

Honestly speaking all ISPs in India are not able to provide good quality connections along with good service. Some reasons can be attributed due to politics, bandwidth available from Major Carriers (i guess some buy from BSNL), lack of professionalism, penetration of broadband connections, .........

However after doing more research, with other people, I have to come to partially conclude that Airtel is less worst of all the worst ISPs available, then probably Iqara, then Tata, and so on. However Airtel has limited coverage.

The best connection that can be available to any subscriber would be not less than a 512 kbps connection @ rate of not more than Rs 500 per month. Then the limited download connections would even be cheaper and internet would then truly be affordable to common man.

Any good plans from Airtel and their prices - unlimited 128 kbps and above - with prices ??

I think my brother pays around Rs. 700 /pm for an unlimited connection from Airtel.

Almost every ISP lies blatantly about bandwidth. If they say it's a 128 kbps connection, expect to get an average throughput of about half that speed.

Bunch of thieves.
