You've actually made a total of 2,788 posts in which 1353 have not counted towards your total post count. Your favorite forum is still General where you have 1326 posts.

1353 didn't count to total and I have 1326 posts totally in the general forum? How?

There seems to be some discrepancy there...

If I'm not mistaken, I think the News forum also doesn't count posts but I might be wrong. Could be a bug also where it didn't add the existing posts that were counted and only counted them with your total posts before the changes took place.

Ah, I think I got it. When threads get moved from "General" or to "general" the post count (of users who already posted in that thread) doesn't adjust itself automatically.

Could be that...

True. If I move a thread from Linux - General but post first, then move, it actually counts my post most of the time. I noticed this a long time ago so now if I move, I always move first then post to make them aware of the move so it doesn't add to my post count.

I don't care much for the number of posts because it doesn't indicate competency with Linux. I will admit however that when I passed the 1000 post mark, I was a bit excited, but I do not post for the sake of racking up my post count. The number of posts, to me indicates how long someone has been a member of this site or how much time they spend on the site (I spend a lot of time here when I am working nights). I have however noticed a lot of posts that are just repetition of what others have posted, posts that have nothing to do with the current thread and nonsense posts by individuals who want to increase their post count. This is obviously an ego thing, but is not vey helpful to those that need answers to their problems.

Post counts are like car odometers.
If someone has a lot of mileage on her vehicle (and no one else drives it), it simply means she's spent a lot of time driving. It doesn't mean she's a good driver. It doesn't mean she's travelled to a lot of different places. All it means is that she's driven a lot.
Likewise, when someone has a high post count, it simply means she's spent a lot of times on the forums.

Well I am glad he posted before me, because I would have done the same. Back on topic, whooo, who, I don't find the post count too reliable. I will hang out at forums before joining, and see how people post, and what they have to contribute. You can see if someone knows what they are talking about or not, it's not that hard.

I post here and in several other forums basically because I have nothing else to do. I am a disabled stay at home dad. So basically when I am not doing the home school thing with the kids or whatever I am online.

Posting for me is kind of an ego thing, mostly because it gives me a way to help others. When I actually manage to help someone and they post Thank You, it really makes me feel good. Like I have actually accomplished something.

I may not have all of the answers, but I try to find them via Google if I don't.

Most of the things that have helped me with Linux I link to on my website. Easier to keep track of the links than just bookmarking them, plus I can access from any computer.

Nice web page Craig, some good links... I Have been wanting to set some help pages up with some information I gathered along the way as well but just have not had the time to put something together... Maybe I'll compile some links and info of my own... Have learned a lot here at LQ
