Put it together. Every single computer I bought before had something on it that I would not want to have and that I was paying for, indirectly, be it hardware or bundle software. I'd say, build it yourself and _buy_ the distribution you like. Everybody wins
Are you asking would you go for a computer that had linux preinstalled or the parts to build your own computer and install the linux distribution of your choice.
I consider embedded linux being installed on a single board computer ie. no video card, no PS/2, no keyboard connector.
BTW if it was a truly embedded SBC with linux then it would be my choice over parts.
Hey, hey. Look at me. I wouldn't want to build it myself. Does that mean I'm not a nerd?
I would pick the parts I want and tell them to put the thing together in a store. Why should I bother. And besides, I'm so clumsy that I'd probably break something anyway. And if the product is free like the name of the game indicated, I'd have money to build the thing in a store, wouldn't I.
But I'd absolutely forbid to install anything to the computer. With the exception of bios files, I'd insist on installing everything from the start.
I don't build my computer because I don't have the hardware knowledge and I'd break something. On the other hand I do know what I want, so I write up a list and take it to a local store I use and give it to them to build for me. I get what I want without anything I don't but without the extra work. Kinda sounds like the I'm-running-linux-feeling
