I hate it when I can't log out because I know that the box is so b0rked that I'll never able to log in again. Not knowing how to fix it doesn't help either.
frieza, i think that's ok if it's dealing a similar problem...better than making a mess with ANOTHER thread...
for example, you help someone install firebird and then ask how to add mouse gestures...or am i wrong? (this is a question for trickykid )
.....you spend ages compiling a really thorough answer toa problem, browse the boards and find that the answer was provided on a double-post. Well, strongly dislike, anyway.
But I do like long, rambling, open ended threads like this that can just run on and on and on and on
Hijacking another's thread all depends on the level of what your asking really and how you ask it.
If the problem is already solved and then a new member comes along and tries the same solution but no go.. they can post their outcome in which I don't see any harm done there as its sort of like continuing the issue.
But if they don't try anything or the problem isn't resolved for that same member who asked it first.. the new person posting should start theirs in a new thread.

XavierP:
This was never intended to be a long, open ended thread. I just wanted to know if anyone had similar experiences. Apparently people think threads like this have some sort of community meaning, Ive seen similar threads before, I guess without knowing it ive started another one...

Well, you have to consider with as many members we have and the amount of times threads like these will be viewed and replied to, just about any off topic discussion from Linux is going to generate replies and the original topic will be twisted and drift off into other topics in most cases.
i HATE, when i say, "id like to do abc, with program-X
and I get an answer:
OH, you shold use program-Y or program-Z, instead.
Did i ask, "what program would You suggest ??"
i Hate when you ask a question, and get a repsonse.
"read the manuals"...
NOW, just maybe, if you KNEW, just what iyou were looking
for was "CALLED", you Could look it up........
i HATE when i get a reply"
"look in some archive".... if you know
its there, and where it is,
why not tell me; assuminng you Do want to help me,
there are those, who have less interesting in helping,
and are more interested in showing
just how much (little) they know !!!!
Originally posted by trickykid Okay, I dislike it when members post multiple times in the same thread all in a row after I've made them aware they can edit their own posts...
I was already aware of that...I still don't see why it makes a difference, and it's much more convenient to click the "quote" button for each post I'm replying to than it is to copy the post I'm replying to, edit my own post, wade down to the bottom, paste it in, put the "quote" tags in, and then go at it.
Originally posted by Kurt M. Weber But seriously, I don't give a damn about that little number...it's just more convenient the way I do it.
I do and for certain reasons I've stated before.. I did however ask you nicely to stop as well.. If your replying to 1 or 10 members, create one post for all of them at once.. no need to quote and reply multiple times in a row.
