Ok. I am growing more and more tired of sourceforge
It is heavy and bloated and almost unusable on older machines.
I miss when it was orange and simpler.
Anyway as a last straw they are forcing a password change.
Ok not that big of deal usually. Its not a bad idea to change passwords
occasionally. Except for the fact the minimum password is 10 characters.
My memory is poor and 10 characters would be almost impossible for me
to remember especially since I don't log in very often. (And using password
managers is insecure)
I maintain a few projects (like this one http://sourceforge.net/projects/ard-core13/)
and I am just getting sick of sourceforge. Is there another alternative that can
host it? I am NOT using version control so it needs to allow binary uploads
I posted this by accident (I'd meant to hit EDIT on the above post), but I'll make the best of it and expand:
Do you just need to be able to upload and let people download, or do you also need a web frontend to describe your software and for people to search for your software?
If you just need uploads and downloads, then just use Dropbox. It has a Public folder for you to use to share stuff.
If it's the second one, then I personally can't think of anything. If you're willing to build a website for the software, though, (hint: use Wordpress) then there are a lot of practically-free hosting solutions that will host both the website and the software. nearlyfeespeech.net is a classic one, or any of the cloud providers (e.g. Google Cloud).

Although a file host might be sufficient, having a project page is much better.
Its hard to believe nobody else has made a site with the features of SF but with less bloat

Arghh
Now the sourceforge D/L page doesn't work at all in Opera 9.6
And without ABP, not only does it have ultra annoying CPU sucking flash ads
but they are how big? 640x540
That's right. 1/3 the width of a 1920x1080 monitor or 62.5% of a 1024x768 monitor
Lucikly my main machine runs ABP but jeez. We need a replacment for SF.net
If anyone wants to take on this project, then I would suggest using S3 for hosting and Bittorrent as the (primary) distribution mechanism. You can seed torrents from S3.
I'm guessing that the git-based hosts will be the future. They also have stringent password requirements, which I dislike, but I guess I'll have to migrate one day.
