Similar story here. Was searching for 'Linux' + 'Mandrake' + 'Soundcard' + 'Problems'. Came here. I did go to places like 'Mandrake Expert', but they weren't exactly helpful. I liked the general atmosphere here, so I stayed.

I am a moderator at http://www.linuxdiscussions.org/forums/ (our site is down thanks to our ex-host, but we shall return soon). We had a visitor a while back, that asked why our site existed, as beleived more than one Linux forum was silly. Anyway, he linked to this forum as his "reference point".

My friend works with Jeremy - said there was this 'linux site' he was running (understatement of the year).

Now I'm hooked.

I usually visit this place around 5-10 times a day now. That's more than I visit /.!!!

The LQ forum was a featured link in Lockergnome's Penguin Shell newsletter. Being fairly new to Linux, I must say that this is the most helpful linux site around! Thanks everyone!

I think I was just typing sites out in the address bar, thought there had to be a sited called linuxquestions.org got here that way... before searching for sites, I tend to just try typing a particular domain name first..

How did I end up here?

I have no bloody idea...

I obviously registered back in August, but looking at my first post, which was November 1st, I was replying and not asking, so I must have been bored at work, which seems to be about right for the most of my days. I vaguely remember getting that monthly newsletter and seeing the "How to clean the screen of a monitor thread" and being interested... beats me.

Cheers,

Finegan

I actually heard about it via

Linux Format. I think it was actually in the printed version of the magazine. Weird to hear about this place in an overly glossy magazine that for some reason I shelled out $12 for.

I ended up here on invitation of trickykid and jeremy regarding the start of a sub-forum under distributions (LFS).
