Not everyone goes straight to college after completing high school...
True… I would probably not either.
I would probably get a job *outside* of school after I get a diploma and then use that money to pay for community college, then get a better job with an associate's degree to pay for a university.
Diploma is not considered a rewarding degree here in India, few of my friends and relatives went for Diplomas after completing their 10th standard (I don't know what you call this in US) at school but that was only because they couldn't get good enough marks in their 10th standard to admissions in high school!

Reason: typo
Well, high school diplomas here in the USA only slightly increase the chances of getting a job, but they still increase it nonetheless. It won't get me a job with a six-figure salary, but it's still enough to at least get me to a community college without a problem. Especially here in California, where the minimum wage is already $8.25 per hour to begin with. But of course, there's also housing expenses, but I will probably stay home with my family while going to community college anyway; only when I get to the university afterwards with the 2-year degree and the better job will I also rent my own (minimalistic) apartment.
I was definitely considering a job FOSS-related along with a degree in something like server admin.
