This might go better in the Networking forum. I doubt this thread gets the exposure you're looking for (or at least should be looking for).

If I don't get a answer I'll post a thread but I may get a answer. I'm sure someone has a couple extra rigs running folding like I have and can tell me the route command to make it work, maybe even tell me how to make it survive a reboot as well. Even if they have broadband it should be basically the same command.

You need to set up the default route on pokey. Set it to the gateway machine which in your case is smokey I think... Do this just like you are setting up a normal shared internet connection and folding will work fine. I'm not sure how you have set up networking on the box, with gui tools or editting config files... What distro, etc. On my mandrake boxes I'd have GATEWAY=192.168.1.101 (my gateway) in the /etc/sysconfig/network file...

route should give something like following on pokey...

I was wondering if there was any way to join teams. I had my 6 PC running for a few months and now have (or am trying to) switch over to all linux OS's. I know I was in the top 15% (not saying much) but I'll start them up again on my Linux boxes. I didn't see a linux version at the site though.

To join the LQ team, simply enter our number (12776) into the client the first time you start it up.

Only when it's uploading and downloading work, which doesn't happen all that often.

I have about 6 boxes here folding on dialup....

My two folds on dial-up too, 26K I might add. Thanks Bell South. It only takes about 15 minutes or so when it downloads new thingys. It shouldn't affect it otherwise. At least not in Linux anyway. You know how screwy windoze is. LOL

I was just wondering... Does anyone actually do protein folding here? I'm in a related area of research. In my case it is called steered molecular dynamics. Basically, proteins structures are taken and force is applied to them to simulate the environmental shears or forces on them. The proteins are simulated over the courses of nanoseconds at a time. A half of a nanosecond is taking me about a week+ on cluster of about 10 slightly outdated Athlon computers.

My lab uses different software since we deal with clustered computers. The comparisons are strange because we have very little RAM usage in our jobs. The simulations are almost entirely CPU intensive for us.

I have a question that I really hate to ask. I may have to shutdown both my rigs for a while. I hate to do this but I do have priorities you know. My question is this, how do I get it to transmit what it has done but not download a new thingy, whatever it is called? I don't want to download one then me shutdown and it be to long and throw a kink in their plans. I will let it finish what it is working on before I stop it though.

Oh, the reason for this. I have been sort of looking for a lady friend. I have one coming. Should be here soon, this week I hope. This old 37, almost 38, year old goat is hopefully getting a 26 year old blue eyed blonde lady from Russia. She is real cute too. Don't ask me why but she picked me. I didn't have a thing to do with it. I just said 'see you at the airport and tell me where to show up'. I don't guess I can post pics. I don't want to share her anyway, she may not want to share me with a puter either. Yea, if things work out, I'll be hitched. I had two uncles that did similiar things. Once they get used to it here, they do fine. 5' 6" and 120 lbs. You try and guess. I'm NOT telling what airport either.

My computer is taking up half my closet. I know she has clothes so I need the closet back. I'm not sure where I will put this thing. It is a bit large. I have a server case, UPS, small box fan, and one Gateway 19" monitor and a table the monitor and keyboard and stuff is on. The second rig is in a pizza box with no case at all. Looks funny but it works great. I'm sort of full up right now with stuff. I guess I need to get rid of some furniture. I'm not throwing out the blonde for sure. We talked over email. She is real nice. Our birthdays are only 8 days apart too. That will be a BIG party.

Enough of that now. Answer my question for me please. I'll try to get folding back online as soon as I can. They may find a cure for what I have and I want to help.

You should be able to run it with the -oneunit option I would think. That should complete a unit and shut down. Not sure it works with an already started unit, but worth a try...
