i feel it is very weird to run another OS in virtualbox, you can't a full screen with nice resolutin, and you can feel its sluggishness.
I don't say windows is more superior, but u can't deny that it has the most support from hardware and software producers.
Have you installed VirtualBox Guest Additions? It gives me the same resolution as on the host and the performance is at least adequate; might depend on the host hardware. Of course Windows attracts more hardware and software support -- it's the biggest market and that matters in a commercial world.
Though I like Linux, especially Ubuntu, I still can't do without windows, 90% of the time I use Windows (7 or vista).
Most of the Engineering softwares I need like Autocad, Solidworks, Matlab etc, are Windows-based.
Overall, I feel Windows is "more useful" to me.
Haven't looked much, have you? Solidworks runs on Linux as of a few months ago. Matlab has run on Linux for years. Autocad doesn't (and won't), but if you have Solidworks...why would you need both?
i use an Acer Aspire 3000 with a 80 gig HDD and i dual boot as soon as i get used to Ubuntu im getting ride of winblows...there are so many people who are willing to help in the Linux community, and the whole thing about Linux as open source and free to everyone is what I love about it.. and not having to use AV software and worry all the time about doing sensitive things on-line like banking and what not for fear of Key loggers and crap. Not in Linux..sure i bet there are stuff written for this OS but the chances of getting a virus or a key-logger from just visiting a website are pretty low...someone correct me if I'm wrong. plus I would like to code some cool little program for Linux. thats my two cents..good luck mate.
For years I've kept a copy of windows around for some things that I might need it for. But I use it less and less. I'm not sure there is anything that you can't do better (or at least as well) in Linux, compared to Linux. But finding out which program to use, and getting the documentation for it or help with it is sometimes the problem.
"Smart" replies that denigrate a person or his opinions for asking are a big turn-off. Some of us need a lot of help.
But for me, the whole thing is huge fun. Learning how to do a job right with Linux, is more fun than any video game.
But I can deny that. Most people use Windows because it either comes pre-installed on their machines or they are just used to it. Many people don't even know that there are other OSes (besides MacOS X) that may meet their demands much better, so they simply don't give it a try. I can't see why Linux wouldn't meet the demand of the "average user" (just surfing the net/using social networks, doing some office stuff and hearing/watching music/videos). Basically that is what more than 90% of the people I know with a computer are doing with their machines.
windows application has more aesthetic design than that in Linux,
in Linux you can use kopete etc to login your yahoo or msn account, but in Windows the Live messenger looks nicer.
There is no general design in Linux. If you find your Linux not good looking then you really should change your theme. I can make my Linux to look whatever I want using themes.
By the way, aesthetics are different for every person, what is good looking for you may not be good looking for me, so this is rather a non-argument.

How Yahoo messenger and MSN messenger, running side by side, each with its own ads and integral design, can look nicer than unified Kopete that uses the system themes ?
I use Linux exclusively on my computers, and M0n0wall on my router; I don't personally need or use Windows, except when I'm asked to fix a Microsoft box.
Do the majority of computer users need Windows? Maybe, but I couldn't care less. So do I win a prize or something?
