Advice regarding engineering project (especially calling all Indian engineers)

I don't know how it is in North America and Europe, but in India we need to do a project in our final year (4th year) of engineering. I am an I.T. engineering student. And I want to do something that interests me for my project.

I have two questions :-

1)Can somebody please suggest a linux related project?

2)How hard would it be for a 4th year engineering student, who knows only 'C' as far as programming languages go, who knows nothing about the linux kernel, to build an extremely simple/basic linux distro based on ... say archlinux? Would an year be enough for such a project? And in your opinion, would it be too risky?
Off course I'm willing to learn whatever I have to.

3)Am I an idiot for even considering this?

Hi,

What does your project advisers have to say about the Senior Project?

What are your interests or discipline in Engineering? What area of employment do you want to enter? You might want too look from that perspective for a project. What about instrumentation or embed systems? Control systems? I could go on and on but not knowing where or what your strengths are, it can be difficult to make suggestion(s).

i would suggest using something like a handheld (e-reader, android-fone) and connecting a braille machine to it.
maybe incorperating arduino or some type of controller.
