Newb install


I get to the screen that wants to check the media, yet i cant do anything. I cant tab between options, select an option, etc.

Well first things first, can you use caps lock and are the little lights on your keyboard on? is it a wireless keyboard? Can you just hit enter? Is the keyboard plugged in the right slot? Check that.

And also, check the md5 sums to make sure the cds are good.

its a laptop so id hope the keyboard is in right ...um the caps locks etc do NOT work when its stuck at that screen.

md5's look fine

Hmm. That is weird I dunno much about laptops, is it possible to connect a keyboard to a usb or serial port? If it has one? If so, try that...

tried an external keyboard, and it runs into the same problems. Its like the whole system is locking up

Have you tried another disto? Try slackware, it may work, I think FC1 doesnt like your laptop

i just tried redhat 9 and that doesnt work either...im new to linux so i wanted a "more friendly" os..and i had other problems with mandrake.

Lightbulb Solution???

I was having the same problem installing Fedora on my Presario 2100, but found this post. Basically it says once you start to boot off the cd to repeatedly hit the caps lock key until you reach the first gui screen. Thought you could give it a try, even if you're using a diffrent laptop.

it worked..thanks..its crazy but it worked..i have an hp so its similar to presario
