Well first things first, can you use caps lock and are the little lights on your keyboard on? is it a wireless keyboard? Can you just hit enter? Is the keyboard plugged in the right slot? Check that.
And also, check the md5 sums to make sure the cds are good.
I was having the same problem installing Fedora on my Presario 2100, but found this post. Basically it says once you start to boot off the cd to repeatedly hit the caps lock key until you reach the first gui screen. Thought you could give it a try, even if you're using a diffrent laptop.
