I have sucessfully installed Fedora Core 2, and I would like to dual-boot with Windows XP. When the computer starts up, I get the grub command line, not the grub menu specified in /boot/grub/menu.lst (which is a link to /boot/grub/grub.conf). When at the grub command line I type 'configfile /boot/grub/menu.lst' it works fine, and shows me the menu, from which I can boot into windows or linux, however the next time it starts up it reverts to just the grub command line. How can I get it to show me the menu every time?

What partition is /boot/grub/menu.lst on? Grub counts from zero so numbers are one less than normal and it uses numbers not letters for drives, again, one less than you'd expect. So /dev/hda4 is (hd0,3) to grub and /dev/hdb8 is (hd1,7). For example, if /boot/grub/menu.lst is on /dev/hda6 enter

grub
> root (hd0,5)
> setup (hd0)
quit

One other thing, maybe the symbolic link is causing the problem. Try copying grub.conf and rename it menu.lst. /boot/grub/menu.lst is the default config file.
