grub (blinking cursor) - won't boot

After installing FC-3 on my P4, with a Promise TX2000 card, and 2 ATA drives running raid 0, I can't seem to boot. When booting, I get the following:

GRUB _ (blinking cursor)

Keyboard does not work, and no results if I wait. I have tried booting to Disc 1, F5, chroot /mnt/sysimage > then try to edit the grub.conf file....but I really don't see any (obvious) problems.

_______________________________
device map = hd0 /dev/hde
fd0 /dev/fd0
root = (hd0,0)

the two drives are listed as;

1) /dev/hde
2) /dev/hdg

I have also changed the "root=/LABEL" text to the root path - /dev/hde5, on both the grub.conf and fstab files.

Any suggestions?
thanks in advance!
Ralph

-------------update-----

After following a tutorial, I now have the folowing error;

"Grub loading stage1.5.

Grub loading, please wait...

Error 2 "

I have checked the pathing and see no errors, and made a boot floppy, and get the same error ???

Are you running Linux Software Raid0 or did you configure the card BIOS as Raid0?

1) The first option will work and the second option will probably not work.

Regarding the second option (BIOS Raid), if your card cost less than US$300, what appears to be hardware Raid is really software Raid that is not recognized/supported by Grub or Linux. Grub tries to interpret the BIOS information, whereas the FC3 installer ignored the BIOS-defined Raid and just installed on /dev/hde.

2) If you are using Linux Software Raid0, then /boot must be Raid1.

3) Also, quoting from the grub manual (http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub.html):

Error 2 : Bad file or directory type - This error is returned if a file requested is not a regular file, but something like a symbolic link, directory, or FIFO.

Grub won't boot

Well, I did resolve the problem, but not the way I wanted. I disconnected the raid card, and put both drives on a ribbon, and configured LVM. So far so good. Just kinda ticked me off I was unable to get the raid card to work. This motherboard offers built-in SATA raid, so i'll probably play with that later.

thanks for the info!
Ralph
