Unhappy Graphics Install fails with a fatal media/hardware error

When installing Fedora Core 4 using the graphics installer, I get a "fatal error" while installing various packages. The error states that there is either a media error, no disk space or a hardware error and that install has to terminate. The only option I have is an "OK" to reboot. I am pretty sure disk space is not an issue - I have a 300GB HDD set aside for this. I also tested the DVD, but it passed. The error occurs on different files each time.

Tried to use text install, but it won't go past the disk druid. It has a hard time dealing with LVM.

Where do I look to get details on whats going on. The error message itself is not very useful. I don't have a OS on this machine yet. Any help would be much appreciated.

hi,
start with text mode installation in boot type linux text and proceed on, then choose the workstation, it will work, after installation you can installa all other packages.

Angry Text install fails as well

Tried the text install, with auto partitioning. That fails with the same error. Here's what it says,

There is an error installing <package-name>. This can indicate a media failure, lack of disk space and/or hardware problems. This is a fatal error and your install will be aborted. Please verify your media and try your install again. Press the OK button to reboot the system.

No clue whats going on. I am using the DVD image, which tests ok. Any help will be much appreciated. - Thanks.

Issue resolved - hardware problem

The issue was with my ITE EIDE controller. It was not able to take my optical drive. I plugged it into my intel IDE controller and all was fine. I bumped into the kernel panic issue after and the "mediacheck/linux mediacheck" workaround proved effective. Don't really know why my ITE controller was acting up with my optical drive after some time. In any case, thanks for all your help.
