VMware Workstation 6.02 with Fedora 8
I have just upgraded one of our systems to Fedora 8 and installed VMware Workstation 6.02, no problems installing VMware Workstation, the problem starts when I try to install Guest OS.
For example if I install Windows XP, it seem to hang after Windows XP installation says 6 or 5 minutes before finish. The funny part is that it seems that the Virtual Machine is still working as the DVD and HDD lights blink as indication that it still reads and writes. But after 5 hours I belief the 5 to 6 minutes have to be finished.
First I believed that it was Selinux related, but with Selinux disabled I still cannot install any guest OS....
The same installation takes on my other 2 machines (1x Fedora 7 and 1x Ubuntu 7.10) around 35 minutes (on slower computers).
Also, not belief that it has anything to do with VMware, my Synaptic package manager keeps crashing.

Vmware Workstation and Fedora Core 8
Hi,
I use VMware Server - I have thought about Workstation but the only real advantage I could see is the multiple snap shots.
From my experience with Fedora Core and VMware products I would recommend sticking with the older FC distro's. Also when updating FC be careful as sometimes the new Kernel build can cause the VMware product to fail.
I have yet to try Workstation on Linux but on Windows it was great! I am currently using VMware Server 1.0.4 on FC7 - can't upgrade the Kernel as it doesn't let me run the VMware-config-tools.
VMWARE rocks! I am glad that after FC-8 update your system worked.

In Fedora 7, if you upgrade your kernel you need vmware-any-any-update to run the VMware-config-tools. Get vmware-any-any-upgrade115 at http://knihovny.cvut.cz/ftp/pub/vmwa...date115.tar.gz
For more information about the vmware-any-any-update you can visit http://communities.vmware.com/thread/26693

Yeah I have the any-update. I think is has to do with some of the other packages I have for Beryl and my Nvidia card. Don't ask, I haven't had the time to investigate it. I am going to load FC8 and give it a try once I get my other machine up and running.
