hello,
i have a FC3 system and want to upgrade to FC6.
i have a FC6 DVD but not a DVD drive :-( is it possible to mount this DVD iso (to loopback) and perform an upgrade?
Or, is it possible to split this DVD into several CDs?
for example if i mount the DVD iso(copied to hard drive over network) and do a rpm -U will it upgrade? will it handle the dependancies?
i had a similar thing a while ago when i wanted to install fc6 from iso image which located in the m$ ntfs partition.
so i copied the image to other pc on the lan then booted using rescue disk "download it and burn it or do something that i couldn't do and make fc6 setup boot from usb stick ;-)"
i setup a nfs server on the lan pc and installed from it .
u have a fat partition ? this will make it much easier for u .
but i highly recommend doing a fresh installaton as lenard said .
yes, i have a FAT partition.
will the following work
1. boot with any other fedora cd(FC3) - 'cause i can't boot with FC6 DVD in the first place !
2. 'boot:linux askmethod'
3. give the fat partition name whre the dvd ISO image resides
will it happily install everything?
(just a reminder: i have a FC6 DVD but not a dvd-drive. so i copied the DVD iso to my hdd over the network )
nop this will not work ,u have to boot using any fc6 boot disk/usb
for me as i donut have dvd writer so i burned the rescue disk on a normal cd and booted from it to use the nfs server to install fc6 ,installing from fat partition will be much easier for u at least u will not hear yr friend sayin//hey remove yr crap from my pc// when u install using network, installing from hd will need similar procedures but i never tried it .
i burned the rescue iso to a normal cd ..
what's the worst can happen ? donut u have a cd burner ? just set the iso at some usb drive and take it to someone who have cd burner //it's only about 80 miga ! //
