problem in configuring wireless card

Hi Everyone,

I have FC6 installed on my Dell Inspiron 1300 with an Intel Pro wireleass card. when I check the network devices using system-config-network, I can see the wireless card configured as eth1. But during the system startup, I get an error message saying that "The ip2200 does not seem to be present in the system, delaying the initialization". Please help me get my wireless configured.

Thank You,

1) search the web for instructions or hints on if there is a native driver that works with the card model you have, and if, how you get it work

2) if you can't find it with reasonable effort (native drivers would be better, so try..), you could probably install ndiswrapper and use a windows driver with it, but before rushing to this get a step-by-step guide from the web to minimize the time and errors it might take. Virtually any ndiswrapper installation/configuration guide (for any Linux distribution/version) should work, just use the correct driver for your card; to get the driver, first check out your card's manufacturer's site if you don't have a cd or other media where it is.

use the lspci -v command to confirm which wireless card you have installed in your system. From the error message you are getting it appears that you have an intel2915 card, but you should confirm it.

For example, here's the output of the lspci -v on my computer if you have a intel2915 card installed the output should look like this:

Code:
06:02.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection (rev 05)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Unknown device 1040
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 50
        Memory at bc007000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]
Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 2
If you have an Intel2915 card, go to: http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/ and download the v3.0 of the firmware. Extract the firmware to /lib/firmware

Reboot your computer and Fedora should initialize the card.

Hope this helps!

I downloaded the latest firmware and drivers for the same and isnstalled, not when I restart the network service it starts the eth1 successfully (eth1 is wireless network card). does it mean its working fine ?( still i don't get the LED glowing, which shows the wireless card activity). what next how to get the wireless network configures and how to connect to any of the network available?
