Don't understand what 'desktop tran' means. But simply running knetworkmanger will put an icon in the KDE 'system tray'. aplications -> internet -> network manager, on my thing, KDE4.
Found answer myself (Trial & Error) Go to home directory, show hidden files. Locate (blue file) called .kde and move to trash. un-heck hidden files and close home directory, log out of desktop. Log back in, kde will re-create new default kde desktop, add back your icons and widgets and you are ready to go.
