how to install remaining packages after fresh instalation

Hi yesterday I have installed fedora18 on my system by selecting gnome desktop. I want to know how to install remaining packages while running gnome desktop. Yesterday I have searched how to add installatioutn dvd to yum and followed four suggestions and now when I open softwares icon from applications menu no pavkages are displayed in this window and I am thinking that yum is not working properly.

Can you please suggest in detail of how to remove completely yum repositories added by me previously and suggest a procedure of how to install remaining packages completely.

Regards,
Rupesh.

Hi rupeshforu,

You install the packages you want using the yum command..
Quote:
$ sudo yum install <package-name>
You can find the repo's under /etc/yum.repos.d directory.

If you are having any difficulties in installing the packages you need. Ping here.

I want to know how to install all the remaining packages available in Fedora18 dvd using less effort because we cant install each and every package by command line. Currently the installed packages are only gnome related.

Hi:

Welcome to Linux Questions and Congratulations on installing Fedora!

Yum is a software package manager that installs, updates, and removes packages on RPM-based systems
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Yum
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/...h04s08s02.html
The Fedora Repositories
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/...h04s08s04.html

Fedora Database
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb
In the Yum Repo list there are approx. 23, 221 packages

Before I installed Fedora I read the documentation-
You could greatly benefit from reading it as you will obtain the knowledge that you are going to need in order to run your distro effectively and efficiently.

Here's information on ping and the commands to do it-
