I am trying to make a decision on what distro. to choose for professional use.
I have been using RH9 since it came out, until I reinstalled everything to have FC1, due to an extremely troublesome "upgrade", which produced crashes every 30 seconds.
After that awful experience, and bearing in mind that FC will very likely ship a new version every 3-6 months, I wonder if I could use
# apt-get dist-upgrade
ALL THE TIME, whenever a new version comes out, much in the same way as Debian users do when they want to avoid reinstalling every few months.
Is the portage of apt to FC1 poweful and bug-free enough to ensure proper version upgrades?
Cheers,

Yeah my fedora install crashed too, and it caused the machine to have to reboot, and now due to a GRUB issue I am having to reinstall Red Hat 9, then I will have to go back into Windows and re-burn CD one so that it will have all of the packages.. Tho I thought that my CD had all the packages in the first place in the ISO.. I guess the CD was just bad or something..

Well I am far from an APT guru, but I do follow it pretty close on the mailing list. I will go as far as to say that you *should* be able to flawlessly upgrade to each release of FC with an apt-get dist upgrade. It is the intention of the main repositories to make available all packages required for a complete upgrade. This would make the most sense for FC in the business setting. Good luck. I would advise that if you plan to go this route you sign up for the freshrpms mailing list to keep abreast of current events.
P.S. I never have done this (dist upgrade) I prefer to re-install with each new release, but I also do not use fedora on a mission critical server or the like.

When I started out with linux back with 7.1 I installed 7.1, then when I upgraded I did an upgrade to 7.3 then when I went to 9 I did a fresh re-install and format.. and I did the same with Fedora Core.. yet I might just do an upgrade when the next release of Fedora comes out..
