How come I can't edit /boot/grub/grub.conf or /boot/grub/menu.lst in Fedora 14?

I'm trying to edit grub menu so I can add Windows XP to it.

I tried to edit grub.conf in Fedora 14 but it's impossible: every time it gives an error message:

(gedit:4676): EggSMClient-WARNING **: Failed to connect to the session manager: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported

**
GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2270:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)
Aborted (core dumped)

I can see it when I try
cat /boot/grub/grub.conf
but
gedit /boot/grub/grub.conf doesn't work.
Neither does
gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

Thanks.

Are you logged in as root in the terminal?
Try gksudo as user.
Or as user type
Code:
xhost +
then login as root and run
Code:
gedit /boot/grub/grub.conf
Or use vi or nano

Kind regards

Try gksudo as user.
I got this: bash: gksudo: command not found...

Or as user type
Code:

xhost +

then login as root and run
Code:

gedit /boot/grub/grub.conf

Or use vi or nano

Logged in as root, and ran gedit /boot/grub/grub.conf
Got this message:
(gedit:4888): EggSMClient-WARNING **: Failed to connect to the session manager: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported

**
GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2270:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)

Try:
open a terminal
Code:
su -
note the "-"
give your password
type
Code:
gedit /boot/grub/grub.conf
If this fails, type
Code:
vi /boot/grub/grub.conf
Kind regards
