Unhappy glibc 2.3.4 needed to upgrade Mozilla 1.6-2 on FedoraCore1

I am a recent Linux user running FedoraCore1. I am trying to load an application "VLC" that requires the "glibc" library to upgrade Mozilla 1.6-2. Here is my message.

[root@machine 1 vlc]# rpm -U *.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3.4) is needed by mozilla-1.6-2

Can I just use the GNU version of "GLIBC 2.3.4" or do I have to have a specific version that runs with FedoraCore1? If the answer to this question is "yes". Where do I get the FedoraCore1 version because I cannot find it on the fedora site?

Thx

It seems that the Mozilla package you are trying to install is compiled against a wrong version of glibc (which is the GNU C Library). You should probably only use the official Fedora glibc RPMs if you are not sure what you are doing, as otherwise many programs could become broken because a lot of stuff depends on glibc.

Getting a new version of Mozilla by other means seems a good solution. Besides downloading it from their web site, you could try getting an (unofficial) RPM from here:

http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/apt/packages.php

I don't know how VLC uses Mozilla or why it needs a certain version of it. So if you install it somewhere else than what the default is in Fedora, you might have to do some adjusting.

Regards
Simon

Simon,

Thanks for the insight. I will try installing the newer version of Mozilla on the dag.wieers.com URL you sent. ......
