Unhappy fix x windows

Hi,

Distro Fedora 5

I want to use gnome and cannot. I need help badly. X windows does not start up. something called xterm? or xtm, something like. all I know is that a long login box appears and when I log in I get a prompt to load Defualt --> load--break, default/failsafe--(buttons), and then I have to drop the terminal on the screen. and I cannot use the command startx, my initab is at 5 but when I start. I am deperate. I can load gnome-panel and then I have to drop and drag the top and the bottom. All this came about, when I notice one day an error message that said gnome could not load icons, please help.

What is the actual error when you type startx from the command line ? I kind of think your getting twm (you refered to it as both xterm and xtm).

Does the file .xinitrc in your home directory contain the line
exec gnome-session. If it doesn't, enter the following command
Code:
echo "exec gnome-session" > ~/.xinitrc

Hi

Hi,

I been away for a while, thank you for your reply. And I am sorry that I am getting back to you so late. I am going to try what you told me to do now, and I will post the error message you asked me about.

Thanks again,

Charles

P.S. It is twm.
