fedora upgrade

as i wrote in the laptop forum i'm in trouble installing fc2 on my laptop. as i insert the fc2 dvd or cd1 the system crash. i workaround the issue downgrading the fc version to fc1 and everything goes ok, then i used up2date to refresh a little the system. now the problem is how to upgrade my system to fc2 or better fc3 sisnce i can't use cd? may i try via yum or somethings?

Fedora Core 3 doesn't support floppy disks, but you can boot from either a USB device or PXE if your BIOS supports them.

Once you've booted you can choose to install from a HTTP or NFS server, or from ISO images on an external hard drive.

Check the mailing lists before using yum to upgrade from FC 2 to FC 3, as SELinux may cause problem if you try that method.

There's a file called diskboot.img in the images/ directory of the first disc.

dd if=diskboot.img of=/dev/sda1

To transfer it to a pen drive. This will erase everything else on it.

I would carry out a clean installation rather than a upgrade if possible. If you've got a server you can easily copy off your files and put them back afterwards.

Not sure what you mean by fc1...

If you've got two machines, then you can setup Apache on one and use it as the installation server for the other. As long as the server runs Apache or a standard HTTP server it doesn't matter what the operating system is.

A network installation server just provides the base/ directory (from CD1) and the RPMS/ (copy the contents of the RPMS/ directories on all of the discs into one directory on the server).
