Question Fedora Core 2 Kernel 2.6.8-1.521 hanging often

I have tried to post to fedora-list@redhat.com but I get no error messages yet this message does not appear on that list - So I have repeated in this forum

Hi

My Linux machine is experiencing regular hangs - I
don't know the cause - maybe it is the X-server. The
machine keyboard does not respond in this state and I
have to power the machine off and on to recover. Also
I find that boot often hangs at the time USB is
started. I have copied the log messages below. - but had to cut because too long for this forum

Any ideas what the problem is and what I do to fix?

Thanks, Clive

I'm no expert, but those errors look like NetBios or Samba errors. Just as a test try disabling 'nmbd' and 'smbd' services. You can change services by running 'serviceconf'.

As for the main cause, it is hard to tell without more information. What kernel? What hardware? etc.

The Kernel version is in the title of the posting: Fedora Core 2 Kernel 2.6.8-1.521

The hardware is a no-name laptop with ( I think) an INtel P4 2.8GHz processor - that part of the log was cut to make the post fit.

Regards

Clive
