Question Fedora 6. No grub after installation

Hello,

I have just installed Fedora 6 on my /dev/hdc5 and /dev/hdc6 from DVD. After the installation finished, now I see no grub (windows boots as usual). Even when I set the start boot disk to HDD-0 to HDD-3 in BIOS without luck.

How can I install Fedora (or optionally make a fedora 6 boot disk on Windows) ?

Thanks,

Devrim

/dev/hdc suggests you have a IDE drive jumpered as a master on ide controller 2.

so whats on controller 1?

2) normally....your bios starts and you have a selected boot order say the drive on controller 1 as master (/dev/hda) and its master boot record then looks for a partition bootable and jumps to the bootloader.

3) so when you installed FC6...can you remember if you were given an option to install to mbr or to root?

sticking it on root meant that your ms bootloader has yet to be configured to chainload to linux.

Thanks aus9. When I do "fdisk -l", I can only see hda, hdc and hdd.

Here are hda and hdc partitions:
/dev/hda1 windows drive C:
/dev/hda3 / (my old Suse installation)
/dev/hdc1 windows drive S:
/dev/hdc2 /usr/disk2
/dev/hdc3 windows drive F:
/dev/hdc4 windows drive Q:
/dev/hdc5 / new fedora 6
/dev/hdc6 Linux LVM

I don't think so. There was a grub config. window. The only thing I have changed was the default (to Windows).

If you're booting windows by default, you may not be seeing the grub screen, it's only there for 5sec with the default setting, watch the boot sequence closely, it should come up saying something like, "booting windows in 5sec, press any key to enter menu". That's when you have to act quick and hit any key.

If that's not the case, somehow you've told grub not to install to the mbr, you can either reinstal grub or as suggested above configure the ms bootloader.

windows is on /dev/hda1 which is normal and thats master jumper on controller 1 so we are getting somewhere.

2) FC6 should have a rescue option on booting it up b4 the hard drive to allow users to re-install the grub bootloader.

3) based on last answer if you never saw grub....it is not installed on mbr so have a read of my tutorial and then venture forth and put it on.

4) after it is on.....your /boot/grub/menu.lst file will have something like this for your ms boot menu

title MS C partition
root (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1

You can also let the Fedora installer configure it properly by using the installation disc, I have posted instructions in post #5 in the following thread. You would have to change /dev/sda to /dev/hda.
