It could be that your X server is not setup correctly. When the system boots up to the login manager(which unfortunately you may not see), you have to do CTRL-ALT-F1, login to the terminal as root and then run the command "system-config-display". Hopefully that will automatically configure X with the right settings.
I let the Live Cd boot until it got to the Login: prompt but I guess I'm not quick enough with the 'Ctrl- Alt- F1',
Are there no boot commands I could try as other wise this will become an extremely frustrating game of 'now you don't see it, and guess what you don't see it again..'
Could it be that the 7300GT PCI-e and 7600GS AGP card are just not compatible with FC6?
You don't have to be fast at doing CTL-ALT-F1. You have to wait until the system has finished starting up and either the login manager or a DE is started. You could also boot into text mode right from the start but I am not sure how you do this on the Fedora Core live cd.
The problem is, if I let the system finish booting all I'm left with is one of the 2 displays above. There is nothing to see for any input from keyboard etc. Just the fact the input is incorrect or it's out of range.
My CRT /TFT will not let me see what I'm supposed to be doing as there isn't anything they can display, because the communication they're getting isn't readable by them..
I am not sure I have been clear in my posts above. If the monitor is having issues with being out of range, you will not see anything when the system is booting, so just boot the system and leave it for a few minutes so that you are sure all the services have started. After that do CTRL-ALT-F1 and you should see a command line login (this works because it does not need X to be running). After that login as root and run "system-config-display" and enter the right values for the refresh rates of your monitor.
I get a display briefly using the Live CD, it then tries to save the changes and crashes out of X, back to the text prompt screen.
I guess if I load the install DVD it will save the changes and not crash?
The screen resolution is pretty low 800x600, so if the install system doesn't crash I'll have to load Nvidia drivers to get a more acceptable resolution.
The question I'm left with is, will it be worth it?
I think you should be alright installing from the DVD and then using the official nvidia drivers. Working with Live CDs can be a problem because settings may not be preserved for future use.
Whilst the LiveCD didn't give me all the answers it at least, with your help, gave me the confidence to install FC6 on to my Hard Drive, expect more questions if I can't find the answers in existing threads.
