Display won't change in Fedora 9

Hi,

I am running Fedora 9 inside VMWare Workstation. I change the display from 800x600 to 1024x768 and I am prompted to log out and restart X Server. I logout and the resolution is back to 800x600. I tried Ctrl+Alt+Backspace as suggested to restart X Server. That don't work. How I do this from the command line? Thanks.

Edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and fix your default resolution. Put in the modelines too if you can generate them

From a terminal xrandr will tell you what modes your display supports. Try system-config-display --help also.

Display won't change in Fedora 9

I am trying to remember what error I was getting....I need to launch it from home. Then I will post the error. I think it was something you don't have rights to save the file xorg.conf, but I was logged in as root.

....I'll be back.

Rereading your question I see what I didn't pay attention to before. Running Fedora 9 inside VMWare. I don't use VMWare but I play with VirtualBox. In VirtualBox you need to install Guest Additions before you are able to get the preferred screen resolution. Once Guest Additions is installed you can also use seamless mode which makes it look as if you are actually running the guest OS on the computer, as in full screen. Maybe there's something similar to Guest Additions for VMWare?
