Desktop items


I'm curious when I save some file to desktop folder it just sometimes shows actually on the desktop????

That's usually what the desktop folder represents.. why its called.. desktop

the thing is it's not updates it's contents and sometimes totally refuses to show certain files I'm using Xorg don't know the version and Gnome same with the version but kind of latest stable..
