Unhappy Mandrake Start-up and desktop items

I am quite happy with how my installation of 9.1 has turned out. I have two problems. I'm hoping you guys (and girls) can help me out with them.

1. I use GAIM a lot. I would like it to start up each time I start my PC. Sometimes I forget to start it and it becomes a minor frustration that it won't start up automatically like it did on my WinBlows system.

2. Desktop items. I delete the same five desktop items at each startup. As a matter of fact, they're all the same item, just five incarnations of it. It's some art program. Over the past few weeks, it's made several duplicates of itself to give me five shortcuts that won't go away. I can only imagine what would happen after years of this - hundreds of these shortcuts on my desktop? It's pathetic, really. A program so desperate for me to use it that it puts five shortcuts of itself on my desktop.

for GAIM download the latest release and enable the dock plugin. That should do it.

also about the icons... delete them and then log out.. maybe when you change them and just shut down it doesnt save the changes?? or if you want you can disable icons period but i dont know if you want that.... thesrs also applications that startup stuff automatically but tahts for blackbox.. proabbly for other WMs too though..

Thanks to both of you, but neither one helped.

For GAIM, I downloaded the latest version and there was no dock plugin. I saw how to load plugins and loaded a few sucessfully, but didn't see one that would load it on startup. I will look further to see if that plugin is an additional download.

On the icons, I have tried logging out and shutting down both with and without the "Save Settings" box checked and done it on my user account and under root. I just don't know what other parameters I can change.

PLEASE HELP!
