Choppy DVD playback in Xine

I have a Compaq SR1803WM computer with a DVD-RW added to it. I have been trying to play my DVD movies on my computer and downloaded Xine as recommended by many people online. It has a built in video card on the motherboard - ATI Radeon Xpress 200.

This is the message I receive when doing a xine-check:

Code:
[will@localhost ~]$ xine-check
Please be patient, this script may take a while to run...
[ good ] you're using Linux, doing specific tests

That means xine will have to do color space transformation and scaling

[ hint ] Your X server doesn't have any XVideo support...
XVideo is an X server extension introduced by XFree86 4.x. This
extension provides access to hardware accelerated color space
conversion and scaling, which gives a great performance boost.
If you have a fast (>1GHz) machine, you may be able to watch all
kinds of video, anyway. You will waste lots of CPU cycles, though...
         press <enter> to continue...
I cannot seem to find a way to fix this YV12 problem, have tried to add lines to my xorg.conf as suggested online but it hasn't created any help either. This is what I added:

Code:
	Option "OpenGLOverlay" "off"
	Option "RenderAccel" "true"
	Option "VideoOverlay" "on"
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

First things first; this might be all right, but let's check it out. What driver are you using for your card (found in /etc/X11/xorg.conf -- look for the sections for screen and monitor, there's a device section with your card)? I had choppy playback of DVD movies on one laptop once, and it was just because it used some vesa driver because it didn't find the correct driver automatically (had to manually change it). If your xorg.conf is using vesa or something similar, try to change it to radeon and see if it helps (restart X by pressing ctrl+alt+backspace). Another option is to install the officila ATI's fglrx drivers (first check out if your card is supported).

Here is my entire xorg.conf - looks like I might have what you asked, still fairly new to most of this:

Code:

Allright, your X configuration seems to be all right, at least the driver is working. Just a curiosity, if you do
Code:
glxinfo | grep direct
do you get "direct rendering: yes" or no?

Also, have you installed libdvdcss2? It might not affect the quality of the output, though, but in case some of your movies don't play, make sure it's installed.

You should also read your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and look for errors; specifically about XVideo and extmod. If XVideo isn't properly loaded, you could try to add extmod to your Module section in the xorg.conf:
Code:
Section "Module"
	Load "dri"
	Load "glx"
        Load "extmod"
EndSection
I'm not too familiar with this problem, but XVideo should be working I think, so let's first make sure it is ok. That's a start at least.

I get this:

Code:
[will@localhost ~]$ glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: No
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
It appears that I have libdvdcss2 installed already, I tried to install it and was told it was already done.
