where is fontconfig.pc

I'm trying to install ximian OOo and in the installation process it says that I don't have fontconfig in my PKG_CONFIG_PATH.

I reinstall fontconfig but with whereis I can only find /usr/share/fontconfig which doesn't have the fontconfig.pc file in it. I tried to put that in my PKG_CONFIG_PATH but of course it didn't work. So where is the file cause whereis can't find it, or are there any better search tools (I'm using fluxbox )?

I cannot help you with the OOo installation problem (I didn't experience any problems in installing OOo). But another good search tool, in addition to "whereis", is "locate". First run (as root) "updatedb". This creates database for "locate". Then you can make a search (either as root or normal user) in this database with "locate <keyword>".

You need the package libfontconfig1-dev and you may want to install apt-file for problems like this in the future. I works similar to apt-get in that you use apt-file update as root to update the package list cache before using for the first time that day.
Code:
[HappyTux:/home/stephen]# apt-file search fontconfig.pc
libfontconfig1-dev: usr/lib/pkgconfig/fontconfig.pc
libfontconfig1-dev: usr/lib/pkgconfig/fontconfig.pc
