Wheezy: Mouse buttons don't register on X wm root window after upgrade

I just upgraded from Squeeze(stable) to wheezy (testing). When starting X and e16, the right mouse button on the root window no longer brings up a menu. In fact, no clicks on the root window do anything, although clicking on the top bar does bring up a workspace menu. As I could not bring up amenu to open a terminal window, I alt-ctrl-del out of X and started up in wmaker. I have the same problm, though. Although mouse buttons work over the clip and icons, I cannot bring menus up on the root window. I am stumped. (Stopping gpm does not do anything.)

An update: I went back to e16 and copied the contents of my ~/.e16 to ~/.enlightenment, then restarted e16. Now, e16 is reading my ~/.e16, and I can access menus with mouse buttons on the root windows of workspaces 2 through 4, but still not on workspace 1.
