upgrading debian

i understand apt-get dist-upgrade uprades all of the installed progs to the newest version available, aka testing......so i need to change my sources from stable to testing...is anything going to break?? i tried to install mplayer and got a bunch of errors about broken stuff..i am thinking i need to update..any ideas?

sorry about this..i used a better search term and found the answer..kinda sorta...
