Sarge not recognising root password

I have this strange problem where kde components requiring root login dont recognise my password even though it's correct. Am sure because when i login using su via terminal it lets me in. Such components include the clock and the login manager within the control panel. Am using kde 3.4

OK wasn't aware rootlogin has to be enabled within the kdmrc before u can login as root any where. oops

recreate root password
You can set the root password by typing sudo passwd root. This will allow you to use su or login as root on the console.
