I'm having a little trouble with firefox, so I thought to troubleshoot I'd get another browser. I'm using firefox 1.5.0.7 from an etch release I downloaded in the beginning of January. I went on line looking for iceweasel. They say that though it too is a mozilla project, that I might be able to get a version based on 2.0.0.1. I cannot find it in my downloaded disks. I thought Debian was replacing firefox with iceweasel. Can I get it somewhere? Can someone fill me in on the whole iceweasel/firefox thing? Any help would be apreciated. Thanks.
I don't know anything much about Iceweasel, but you could try Konqueror, Opera or SeaMonkey. I'm pretty sure there are versions of all of those available for Debian.
you should be able to just "apt-get install iceweasel" and you could always go the route I did and just download it from the firefox website. The files are already packaged where they need to be so no matter where you save it, it'll run. If you are in etch everything should be upgraded to 2.0.0.1 or whatever the latest version is.
I think etch doesn't have iceweasel in it, because the snapshot I downloaded on the first of January doesn't have it. (I'm going from disks) How would I get it for debian, short of going to unstable?

I would be looking for firefox 2.0.0.1 then, right... not iceweasel, which is really the same thing, right?
I have the auto-update thing that comes with etch, and it installed iceweasel probably a week ago. My guess is that the first of the year etch didn't have iceweasel, but it does now. Either way, iceweasel and firefox are the same except for some issues with logos and trademarks or something. I actually still use firefox instead of iceweasel because i like the icons better (great reason huh?) But yes, they are the same. And yes, iceweasel is on etch now.
Yes Iceweasel is available in Etch, it is one of the few newer packages that made it in. Probably because of the licensing issues with Mozilla and Firefox.
