Nvidia fails to build on newest Sid Kernel (2.6.25-1)
Just installed the headers for the new 2.6.25-1-AMD64 kernel this morning after having the kernel installed for a few days (headers were only installable today due to the proper kbuild package being missing till then from the repos).
Went to install the Nvidia drivers from their site as usual, and after I hit no to bypass the GCC check it got to 100% then failed. checked they log and it failed to make it.
It worked fine when I went back to the 2.6.24-AMD64 kernel.
Am I potentially missing something needed for the newer kernel to compile? Could it be that im using a newer version of GCC then the kernel was made with? (have always ignored it in the past but never had troubles) and if thats the case, anyone know the command offhand to force the Nvidia installer to use the older version of GCC? I forgot it and cant find that anywhere.
Maybe something is just not right with the new kbuild package? If thats the case I got no problems waiting it out, Sid is a unstable version that lets you get the newest packages. But if its something I am doing wrong or can fix I really would like to know.
You can use the latest nvidia beta drivers (173.08 at the time of writting), their compatible and they build fine with the 2.6.25 kernel. Not all cards are supported though, check the compatibility list.
I've been using it for several days without a single problem on a 8600gts.

new version of kbuild for the 2.6.25-1 kernel is in the repositories today, it fixed the problem, drivers installed with the Nvidia installer flawlessly.
I just managed to get the .169 driver (for AMD64), with suggested patch, working on Lenny and a scratch/vanilla 2.6.25.1 kernel. Asus M2NPV-VM, chipset gF6150 & nF430. Got the original installer and the patch in the same dir, did the patch as suggested on the nvnews site and the custom installer worked first time Next step: MythTV (yeah, got the multimedia repo in my sources.list already )
