New 31 kernel will not give suspend?

Previously, with the Lenny 2.6.26-1-amd64 kernel, right-clicking the padlock symbol in the task bar and then clicking suspend to ram worked - flashing 'on' light and so on.

Installed the 2.6.31.5 kernel and it no longer works.

GrapefruiTgirl's http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...pend+%2Fmem%2F script suspends to RAM but you have to be root, it's not as convenient, also when you restart the internet is down - you have to reboot.

Any way to get suspend to ram to work?
Code:
lugo@fido:~$ grep  -i suspend /boot/config-2.6.26-1-amd64
CONFIG_ARCH_SUSPEND_POSSIBLE=y
# Memory hotplug is currently incompatible with Software Suspend
CONFIG_SUSPEND=y
CONFIG_SUSPEND_FREEZER=y
CONFIG_USB_SUSPEND=y
lugo@fido:~$ grep  -i suspend /boot/config-2.6.31.5
CONFIG_ARCH_SUSPEND_POSSIBLE=y
# Memory hotplug is currently incompatible with Software Suspend
CONFIG_SUSPEND=y
CONFIG_SUSPEND_FREEZER=y
CONFIG_USB_SUSPEND=y
lugo@fido:~$

Great thanks. Don't know, are we talking about 'knowledge management system' or perhaps dkms - Dynamic Kernel Module Support Framework? dkms is not installed.

Not knowledgeable about this stuff.

KMS means "kernel mode setting" I think... Not that I know anything more than that.

Thanks. Looked in dmesg, there is no mention of kms. Anyone know how to enable it or check if it is enabled?

"There are many new and innovative features brewing within the X.Org development community right now -- among the many are Gallium3D, the TTM memory manager, and MPX (Multi-Pointer X) -- but one of the features that has risen towards the top of the list and delivers visible benefits to the end-user is kernel-based mode-setting. As implied by its name, kernel mode-setting involves moving the mode-setting code for video adapters from the user-space X server drivers into the Linux kernel. This may seem like an uninteresting topic for end-users, but having the mode-setting done in the kernel allows for a cleaner and richer boot process, improved suspend and resume support, "

I know for me, with the radeon driver and KMS enabled (I think a default) in .31, suspend does not work. It works in .32 though =)

Oh well, that's beautiful - I'll install .32 and keep my genitals crossed. It's newly been deemed stable.

Installed .32 using 'make oldconfig' - the config file from .31 which in turn came from the .26 which comes with the Lenny 5 distribution. Unfortunately the very convenient 'suspend to ram' thing still does not work.

Seems possible I have not configured the kernel correctly. Know this is a bit of an arcane bastard but any help appreciated.
